Ullal: Senior doctor and former Zilla parishad member, Nathekal resident Dr. P. Ramanujan, 79, suffered from a brief illness and passed away on Wednesday. He is survived by a son and a daughter. After graduating as a doctor in Mysuru, he started a government service at the Primary Health Centre in Natekal, then shifted to the Primary Health Centre in Bondel, resigned from the government medical profession, and started his own clinic at Natekal and started his own clinic at Natekal to provide health care to the poor people of several nearby villages. From 1965 to 2020, he practiced medicine for nearly 55 years. In 1990, he was elected to the Zilla Parishad and took the initiative to start a government higher primary school at Harekala.
In 1991, when he was the chairman of the health committee for the undivided Dakshina Kannada district, he was instrumental in starting a glucose bottling unit at the government Wenlock Hospital. He was politically and socially involved with medical service and served as the president of Lions Club Mangalagangotri, honorary president of Billava Sangha Kolya, and mentor to several organizations.
